हाथी और उसकी याददाश्त
जंगल में एक बुद्धिमान हाथी रहता था, जिसका नाम था गजेंद्र। वह बूढ़ा था, लेकिन उसकी याददाश्त बहुत तेज़ थी। उसे सब कुछ याद रहता – पेड़, रास्ते, पानी के स्रोत और पुरानी घटनाएं।
एक दिन जंगल में एक घमंडी शेर आया – नाम था भीम।
शेर ने गजेंद्र से कहा,
“तेरी याददाश्त किस काम की? असली ताकत तो मेरी है!”
गजेंद्र शांत रहा और बोला,
“याददाश्त से भरोसा बनता है, ताकत से डर।”
कुछ महीनों बाद जंगल में भयंकर सूखा पड़ा। नदियाँ सूख गईं, तालाब खत्म हो गए। जानवर प्यासे थे।
शेर ने कहा –
“इस जंगल में अब कुछ नहीं बचा। चलो, नया जंगल ढूंढते हैं!”
तभी गजेंद्र ने कहा –
“मुझे याद है, सालों पहले ऐसा ही सूखा पड़ा था। मेरे दादा मुझे एक गहरे कुएं पर ले गए थे, जो आज भी पानी से भरा हो सकता है।”
सब जानवरों ने उम्मीद से गजेंद्र की ओर देखा।
गजेंद्र सबको लेकर चला और एक छिपी घाटी में पहुँचा।
वहाँ सच में एक कुआँ था – ठंडा, साफ़ और मीठा पानी भरा हुआ!
सब जानवर खुशी से झूम उठे। शेर भी शर्मिंदा होकर बोला –
“गजेंद्र, आज समझ आया कि याददाश्त की ताकत असली होती है।”

पूरी कहानी विस्तार से पढ़िए: (शब्द सीमा: ~2500)
बहुत समय पहले की बात है। एक हरा-भरा जंगल था जिसका नाम था हरितवन। इस जंगल में हर तरह के जानवर रहते थे – शेर, बंदर, तोता, खरगोश, हिरण, और सबसे बड़ा और समझदार जानवर था – हाथी। उसका नाम था गजेंद्र।
गजेंद्र कोई आम हाथी नहीं था। वह बहुत ही शांत, समझदार और सबसे बड़ी बात – उसे अपनी याददाश्त पर बहुत गर्व था। जंगल के जानवर जब कुछ भूल जाते, तो गजेंद्र से ही पूछते – “गजेंद्र भैया, वो कुआं कहाँ है जहाँ हमने पानी भरा था?” या “पिछली गर्मी में फल कहाँ मिले थे?” और गजेंद्र झट से सब कुछ याद दिला देता।
📜 गजेंद्र की खासियत – उसकी याददाश्त
गजेंद्र बचपन से ही सब कुछ याद रखता था:
- कौन-से पेड़ पर कौन-सा फल पकता है,
- किस मौसम में कौन-से तालाब में पानी बचता है,
- और किस जानवर ने कब किसकी मदद की या उसे परेशान किया।
जंगल में बच्चे भी गजेंद्र से सवाल पूछते थे जैसे:
“गजेंद्र काका, आपने सबसे पहले क्या याद किया था?”
“गजेंद्र काका, आप कभी कुछ भूलते नहीं क्या?”
गजेंद्र हँसते हुए कहता –
“याद रखना एक कला है, लेकिन उससे भी बड़ी बात है, उसे सही जगह पर इस्तेमाल करना।”
😠 घमंडी शेर की परेशानी
जंगल में एक नया शेर आया था – भीम।
वह खुद को जंगल का राजा समझता था, लेकिन उसे गुस्सा बहुत आता था और वो किसी की सुनता नहीं था।
एक दिन शेर ने गजेंद्र को चिढ़ाते हुए कहा –
“किस काम की तेरी याददाश्त? तू तो बूढ़ा है, धीरे चलता है। जंगल में ताकत चलती है, याददाश्त नहीं!”
गजेंद्र ने मुस्कराते हुए जवाब दिया –
“ताकत से डर पैदा हो सकता है, लेकिन याददाश्त से विश्वास।”
शेर को यह बात चुभ गई।
🌀 सूखा और मुसीबत का समय
समय बीता। एक बार जंगल में भीषण सूखा पड़ा।
नदियाँ सूख गईं, तालाबों में पानी नहीं रहा। जानवर परेशान हो गए। छोटे बच्चे प्यास से कराहने लगे।
शेर ने सब जानवरों को इकट्ठा किया और बोला –
“हम कहीं और चलें। यहाँ तो अब जीना मुश्किल है!”
जानवर घबरा गए। लेकिन तभी गजेंद्र धीरे-धीरे आया और बोला –
“मैं जानता हूँ कि 10 साल पहले भी ऐसा सूखा पड़ा था। और तब मेरे दादा मुझे एक छिपे हुए कुएं पर ले गए थे जो बहुत गहरा था और कभी सूखता नहीं था।”
शेर ने ताना मारा –
“अब तेरा दिमाग काम करेगा क्या, बूढ़े हाथी?”
लेकिन बाकी जानवरों को उम्मीद मिली। उन्होंने कहा –
“गजेंद्र भैया, हमें ले चलो उस कुएं तक।”
🐾 गजेंद्र की अगुवाई
गजेंद्र आगे चला, और पीछे पूरा जंगल –
बंदर, हिरण, खरगोश, यहां तक कि शेर भी।
लंबी यात्रा के बाद, गजेंद्र ने एक पुरानी घाटी में एक जगह दिखाई।
वहाँ एक बड़ा पेड़ था जिसके पास एक पत्थरों से ढका कुआं था।
गजेंद्र ने पत्थर हटाए, और क्या देखा –
कुएं में ठंडा मीठा पानी था!
सब जानवर खुशी से नाचने लगे। बच्चों ने गजेंद्र को गले लगा लिया।
“गजेंद्र भैया ज़िंदाबाद!”
🦁 शेर को सीख मिली
शेर भी चुपचाप आया और गजेंद्र के पास आकर बोला –
“माफ़ करना गजेंद्र। आज समझ आया कि ताकत सब कुछ नहीं होती।”
गजेंद्र ने प्यार से कहा –
“याददाश्त सिर्फ बातें याद रखने के लिए नहीं, बल्कि अनुभव से सबक लेने के लिए होती है।”
जंगल में उत्सव
उस दिन से हर साल उस कुएं के पास “गजेंद्र दिवस” मनाया जाने लगा।
बच्चे गजेंद्र से कहानियाँ सुनते, और जानवर उसे फूल पहनाते।
गजेंद्र की याददाश्त बन गई जंगल की सबसे बड़ी ताकत।

TRANSLATION INTO ENGLISH LANGUAGE
There lived a wise elephant in the forest, whose name was Gajendra. He was old, but his memory was very sharp. He remembered everything – trees, paths, sources of water and old events.
One day a proud lion came to the forest – his name was Bheem.
The lion said to Gajendra,
“What is the use of your memory? The real strength is mine!”
Gajendra remained calm and said,
“Memory builds trust, strength builds fear.”
After a few months, there was a severe drought in the forest. The rivers dried up, the ponds vanished. The animals were thirsty.
The lion said –
“Nothing is left in this forest now. Let’s find a new forest!”
Then Gajendra said –
“I remember, there was a similar drought years ago. My grandfather took me to a deep well, which may still be full of water.”
All the animals looked at Gajendra with hope.
Gajendra took everyone along and reached a hidden valley. There was indeed a well there – filled with cool, clear and sweet water!
All the animals were overjoyed. Even the lion said in embarrassment –
“Gajendra, today I understood that the power of memory is real.”
🌟 Moral:
“Memory and experience are very valuable – never forget the words of the elders.”

It was a long time ago. There was a lush green forest called Haritvan. All kinds of animals lived in this forest – lions, monkeys, parrots, rabbits, deer, and the biggest and wisest animal was – elephant. His name was Gajendra.
Gajendra was no ordinary elephant. He was very calm, wise and most importantly – he was very proud of his memory. When the animals of the jungle forgot something, they would ask Gajendra – “Gajendra Bhaiya, where is the well where we filled water?” or “Where did we find fruits last summer?” and Gajendra would instantly remind them of everything.
📜 Gajendra’s specialty – his memory
Gajendra used to remember everything since childhood:
Which fruit ripens on which tree,
Which pond has water in which season,
And which animal helped or troubled whom and when.
Even the children in the jungle would ask Gajendra questions like:
“Gajendra Kaka, what was the first thing you remembered?”
“Gajendra Kaka, don’t you ever forget anything?”
Gajendra would say laughingly –
“Remembering is an art, but an even bigger thing is to use it at the right place.”
😠 The problem of the arrogant lion
A new lion had come to the jungle – Bheem.
He considered himself the king of the jungle, but he was very angry and did not listen to anyone.
One day the lion teased Gajendra and said –
“What is the use of your memory? You are old, you walk slowly. In the jungle, strength matters, not memory!”
Gajendra replied smilingly –
“Strength can create fear, but memory can create trust.”
This hurt the lion.
🌀 Time of drought and trouble
Time passed. Once there was a severe drought in the jungle.
The rivers dried up, there was no water in the ponds. The animals were worried. Small children started groaning with thirst.
The lion gathered all the animals and said –
“Let us go somewhere else. It is difficult to live here now!”
The animals got scared. But then Gajendra came slowly and said –
“I know that there was a drought like this 10 years ago too. And then my grandfather took me to a hidden well which was very deep and never dried up.”
The lion taunted –
“Will your brain work now, old elephant?”
But the rest of the animals got hope. They said –
“Gajendra Bhaiya, take us to that well.”
🐾 Gajendra’s leadership
Gajendra walked ahead, and the whole jungle behind –
Monkeys, deer, rabbits, even the lion.
After a long journey, Gajendra showed a place in an old valley.
There was a big tree near which there was a well covered with stones.
Gajendra removed the stones, and what did he see –
There was cold sweet water in the well!
All the animals started dancing with joy. The children hugged Gajendra.
“Gajendra Bhaiya Zindabad!”
🦁 Lion learnt a lesson
The lion also came quietly and came to Gajendra and said –
“Sorry Gajendra. Today I understood that strength is not everything.”
Gajendra said lovingly –
“Memory is not just for remembering things, but for learning lessons from experience.”
Celebration in the forest
From that day onwards, “Gajendra Day” started being celebrated every year near that well.
Children would listen to stories from Gajendra, and animals would garland him with flowers.
Gajendra’s memory became the biggest strength of the forest.

“The right use of memory is wisdom. Strength is not great, experience and knowledge are great. And the biggest thing – never underestimate anyone.”
