जंगल में हलचल
बहुत समय पहले की बात है। घने पेड़ों और रंग-बिरंगे फूलों से भरे सप्तवर्ण जंगल में सभी जानवर खुशी-खुशी रहते थे। वहां मोर नाचते थे, बंदर उछलते थे और हाथी पानी में खेलते थे। लेकिन उस जंगल में एक जानवर था, जो सबकी नजरों में थोड़ा अलग और खास था—लोमड़ी लिली।
लिली एक छोटी, सुनहरी रंग की लोमड़ी थी जिसकी आँखों में चमक और दिमाग में चतुराई भरी हुई थी। वह बहुत तेज़ सोचती थी, और मुश्किल से मुश्किल समस्या का हल ढूंढ़ निकालती थी। सभी जानवर उसे पसंद करते थे, पर कुछ जानवरों को उसकी चालाकी पर जलन भी होती थी।
जंगल में अजीब घटनाएं
एक दिन जंगल में अजीब घटनाएं होने लगीं। फल गायब हो रहे थे, पानी के झरनों से पानी कम होने लगा था और जानवरों को रात को अजीब आवाज़ें सुनाई देती थीं। सब हैरान थे।
शेर सम्राट, जो जंगल के राजा थे, ने सभा बुलाई।
“हमारे जंगल में कुछ गड़बड़ हो रही है,” शेर ने गरजते हुए कहा। “हमें इसका पता लगाना होगा।”
बंदर बोला, “शायद यह कोई नई जानवर की करतूत हो!”
हाथी ने सुझाया, “हमें पहरेदार बढ़ा देने चाहिए।”
तभी लोमड़ी लिली आगे आई, “महाराज, अगर आप आज्ञा दें, तो मैं इस रहस्य का पता लगाना चाहूंगी।”
शेर ने सहमति में सिर हिलाया, “ठीक है लिली। जंगल की सुरक्षा अब तुम्हारे हाथ में है।”
लिली की खोजबीन
लिली ने अपने जासूसी मिशन की शुरुआत की। वह रात को चुपचाप जंगल में घूमती, निशानों को देखती, मिट्टी की गंध सूंघती, और अपने कानों को तेज़ रखती। दो दिन बाद उसे कुछ सुराग मिले—किसी ने केले खाए थे लेकिन छिलके को पेड़ की ऊंची शाखा पर फेंक दिया था।
“ये कोई बंदर नहीं कर सकता,” लिली ने सोचा, “बंदर खुद केले खाते हैं लेकिन छिलके ज़मीन पर ही फेंकते हैं।”
तीसरी रात लिली ने कुछ सरसराहट सुनी। वह धीरे से उस दिशा में गई और क्या देखा—एक भेड़िया, जिसका नाम था वोल्फो, जंगल के फल चुराकर एक बोरे में भर रहा था!
भेड़िए की चाल
वोल्फो किसी दूर जंगल से आया था। वह चालाक था, पर उतना नहीं जितना लिली। वह जंगल के सारे फल इकट्ठा कर अपने ठिकाने ले जा रहा था और वहां अपने साथियों को बेचता था।
लिली ने उसे पकड़ने की योजना बनाई। अगली सुबह उसने सभा बुलाई और कहा, “मुझे शक है कि चोर जंगल में ही है और हमारे बीच रहता है। हमें उसे जाल में फँसाना होगा।”
सब जानवर चौंक गए। “क्या वह हमारे बीच का ही कोई है?”
लिली ने योजना बताई। एक नकली फल का भंडार बनाया गया और उसमें एक गुप्त जाल लगाया गया। रात को वोल्फो फिर आया और जैसे ही उसने फल उठाए—धड़ाम! वह जाल में फँस गया।
सच सामने आता है
अगली सुबह सब जानवर इकट्ठे हुए। वोल्फो को जाल में देखकर सब चौंक गए। शेर सम्राट ने गुस्से से पूछा, “तुम कौन हो और हमारे जंगल में क्यों आए?”
वोल्फो ने घबराकर बताया, “मैं भूखा था और अपने जंगल से निकाल दिया गया था। मुझे जीने का तरीका यही लगा कि दूसरों से चुराकर खाऊं।”
लिली ने ध्यान से उसकी बात सुनी। उसने कहा, “गलती करना गलत है, लेकिन अगर सचमुच तुम भूखे थे, तो मदद मांग सकते थे। चोरी नहीं।”
शेर सम्राट ने उसे चेतावनी दी, “तुम्हें सज़ा मिल सकती है, लेकिन अगर तुम सच्चे मन से माफी माँगो और वादा करो कि आगे से ऐसा नहीं करोगे, तो हम तुम्हें माफ़ कर सकते हैं।”
वोल्फो ने आँखों में आँसू लाते हुए कहा, “मैं वादा करता हूँ, अब मैं मेहनत से खाऊँगा।”
बदलाव की शुरुआत
वोल्फो को जंगल में एक छोटी सी ज़िम्मेदारी दी गई—पानी की देखभाल की। वह मेहनत से काम करने लगा और जल्द ही सबका विश्वास जीत लिया।
लिली की बुद्धिमानी और करुणा ने एक भटके हुए जानवर को सही रास्ते पर ला दिया।
अब जब भी जंगल में कोई परेशानी आती, सब एक ही आवाज़ में कहते, “लिली को बुलाओ!“

The cunning fox and the secret of the forest
Abuzz in the Jungle
A long time ago, all the animals lived happily in the saptarang jungle, full of dense trees and colorful flowers. Peacocks danced, monkeys frolicked, and elephants played in the water. But there was one animal in the jungle that was different and special to everyone—Lily the fox.
Lily was a small, golden-colored fox with sparkling eyes and a clever mind. She thought very fast and could solve even the most difficult problems. All the animals liked her, but some were jealous of her cleverness.
Strange things started happening in the jungle one day. Fruits were disappearing, water from the waterfalls was receding, and the animals heard strange noises at night. Everyone was puzzled.
The Lion Emperor, the king of the jungle, called a meeting.
“Something is going wrong in our jungle,” roared the lion. “We must find out.”
“Perhaps it is the work of some new animal,” said the monkey.
“We should increase the guards,” suggested the elephant.
The fox Lily came forward, “My lord, if you permit, I would like to find out this mystery.”
The lion nodded, “All right, Lily. The safety of the jungle is in your hands now.”
Lily’s investigation
Lily began her detective mission. She would quietly wander the jungle at night, looking for tracks, smelling the soil, and keeping her ears sharp. Two days later she found some clues—someone had eaten the bananas but thrown the peels on a high branch of a tree.
“No monkey can do this,” thought Lily, “Monkeys eat bananas themselves but throw the peels on the ground.”
On the third night, Lily heard some rustling. She slowly went in that direction and what did she see—a wolf, whose name was Wolfo, was stealing fruits from the forest and filling them in a sack!
The wolf’s trick
Wolfo had come from some far-off forest. He was clever, but not as much as Lily. He was collecting all the fruits of the forest and taking them to his hideout and selling them to his companions there.
Lily made a plan to catch him. The next morning she called a meeting and said, “I suspect that the thief is in the forest and lives among us. We have to trap him.”
All the animals were shocked. “Is he one of us?”
Lily told the plan. A fake store of fruits was made and a secret trap was set in it. Wolfo came again at night and as soon as he picked up the fruits—thud! He got caught in the trap.
The truth comes out
The next morning all the animals gathered. Everyone was shocked to see Wolfo in the trap. The Lion King asked angrily, “Who are you and why did you come to our jungle?”
Wolfo replied nervously, “I was hungry and was thrown out of my jungle. The only way I found to survive was to steal from others.”
Lily listened to him carefully. She said, “It is wrong to make mistakes, but if you were really hungry, you could have asked for help. Not stolen.”
The Lion King warned him, “You may get punished, but if you apologize sincerely and promise that you will not do this again, then we can forgive you.”
Wolfo said with tears in his eyes, “I promise, now I will eat hard.”
The beginning of change
Wolfo was given a small responsibility in the jungle—to take care of the water. He started working hard and soon won everyone’s trust.
Lily’s wisdom and compassion brought a lost animal back on the right track.
Now whenever there was trouble in the forest, everyone would say in one voice, “Call Lily!”
Moral of the story
“Being wise and being compassionate—both are important. Not everyone who makes a mistake is bad, if he is given a chance to correct it.”
