हर बूँद है अमृत की धारा
अधूरी कल्पना सृष्टि की
फीका फीका मंज़र सारा
मनुष्य ही नहीं पशु पक्षी
पेड़ों का भी यही आधार
फूल फसलें खेत जंगल
रहते हैं इन्ही से गुलजार
अफ़सोस जल का स्तर
घटता जा रहा है लगातार
नदी तालाब झरने सूखने
से मचा हर ओर हाहाकार
बचे हुए नदी नहर समुद्र में
हमने गंदगी का प्रवाह किया
प्लास्टिक लाशें कचरे मिट्टी
सोच समझ कर अथाह किया
प्रदूषण इस मर्ज़ की जननी
बीमारियाँ मृत्यु इसके बेटे हैं
सारे जीव जंतु तड़पते मरते
सृष्टि उथल पुथल कर देते हैं
पैसे के घमंड में ग़र हम सभी
पानी की बर्बादी नहीं रोकेंगे
अपनी आने वाली पीढ़ी को
पानी के बदले में क्या देंगे
निकल कर कुँआ नदियों से
पाऊच बोतलों में बिकता है
एक चार या दस बोतल पानी
भला कितनी देर टिकता है
सोने चाँदी हीरों से बढ़कर
पानी की है हर एक बूँद
जागें भी जगाएं सभी को
न रखो अपनी आँखें मूँद
संकट के बादल मंडरा रहे
विज्ञान भी है लाचार यहाँ

“बिन पानी सब सून” पानी की हर एक बूँद सृष्टि के प्रत्येक जीव के लिए अमृत है, फिर चाहे वो कोई जीव हो, मनुष्य हो या फिर घास, पेड़, पौधे, फसलें हों, सभी के लिए पानी अर्थात जल, नीर, आब अमृत से भी बढ़कर है, किन्तु स्वयं को बुद्धिमान समझने वाला मनुष्य आज किस तरह से जल को दूषित कर रहा है, पीने योग्य पानी को भी अपनी लालसा व कामना की भेंट चढ़ा रहा है ये किसी से छिपा नहीं है। सभी अच्छी तरह से जानते हैं पानी बहुत कीमती है, बावज़ूद इसके लोग इसे व्यर्थ ही बहा दे रहे हैं। बिना पानी के सारा संसार ही सूना है, जल बिना कल की सम्भावना ही नहीं है। जल की कीमत उस किसान को पता है जब वर्षा नहीं होती, खेत सूख जाते हैं, फसलें खेतों में लहलहाने को तैयार रहती हैं, किन्तु पर्याप्त जल आपूर्ति न होने से, ये सुअवसर न फसलों के हिस्से आती है और ना ही किसान के।

इस बात से बिलकुल भी इन्कार नहीं किया जा सकता है कि- जल प्रदूषण से केवल पर्यावरण ही प्रभावित होता है ऐसा नहीं है, यह मानव स्वास्थ्य के लिए भी बेहद गंभीर समस्या है, प्रदूषित पीने के पानी से कई स्वास्थ्य समस्याएँ हो सकती हैं, जैसे आंतों के रोग, प्रजनन संबंधी मुद्दे और तंत्रिका विकार। जल जनित रोगाणु, जैसे बैक्टीरिया और वायरस, गंभीर बीमारियों का कारण बन सकते हैं, विशेष रूप से बच्चों और बुजुर्गों में। केवल इतना ही नहीं प्रदूषित जल से लंबे समय तक संपर्क गंभीर स्थितियों का कारण बन सकता है, जैसे कैंसर और विकासात्मक विकार। ये समस्या यहीं तक नहीं रुकी है, जल प्रदूषण का गंभीर परिणाम जलीय जीव जंतु जैसे- मछली, मगरमच्छ और भी कई अन्य जीव भी भुगत रहे हैं।
जल प्रदूषण के कारण सामाजिक व आर्थिक दुष्परिणाम भी हो रहे हैं। सामान्य जन-जीवन प्रदूषित जल, सुरक्षित पीने के पानी की उपलब्धता को कम कर देता है, जिससे नगरपालिकाओं व बड़े बड़े शहरों में बीमारियों के बढ़ने से उपचार की लागत बढ़ जाती है। मछली पकड़ने के उद्योग धंधे भी प्रभावित होते है, जिससे आजीविका और खाद्य सुरक्षा को खतरा होता है। पर्यटन उद्योग पर बुरा असर पड़ता है क्यूंकि जिन शहरों में जल प्रदूषित होते हैं, वहां के लोग प्रदूषित समुद्र तटों और मनोरंजन क्षेत्रों से बचते हैं।
