सोनू बहुत ही ईमानदार व आदर्श छात्र था, सोनू के पिता उसे बचपन में ही छोड़कर चले गये। वह अपनी जिन्दगी अपनी माता के साथ गुजारने लगा। सोनू आठवीं में पढ़ने वाला एक निर्धन छात्र था। उसके पास इतने पैसे नहीं थे कि वह आगे की पढ़ाई कर सके। उसके पास अच्छे वस्त्र भी नहीं थे। उसकी कक्षा के सभी छात्र उसकी हँसी उड़ाते थे। लेकिन सोनू इससे तनिक भी विचलित नहीं होता था, इतनी उपेक्षा होने के बावजूद अपने साथियों से सदैव मित्रवत एवं प्रेमपूर्ण व्यवहार करता था। सोनू की मां की हार्दिक इच्छा थी कि वह पढ़-लिखकर एक कामयाब इन्सान बने, लेकिन वह सदैव यही सोचती रहती कि मेरे पास इतने पैसे भी नहीं हैं कि मैं अपने पुत्र को अच्छी शिक्षा दे पाऊँ। उसकी मां मेहनत-मजदूरी करके जो कुछ प्राप्त कर पाती वह इतना अधिक नहीं हो पाता कि कुछ बच पाये सारे पैसे रोजमर्रा में ही खर्च हो जाते। इधर सोनू अपनी पढ़ाई के खर्च के लिए तथा मां की सहायता के लिए खैलौने बेचने लगा। सुबह विद्यालय जाता और विद्यालय से लौटकर खिलौने बेचने निकल जाता।
शिक्षक महोदय ने उसे शाबाशी देते हुए पांच सौ रुपये निकाल कर उसे दे दिये और बोले तुम एक दिन इस विद्यालय का नाम अवश्य रोशन करोगे।
सोनू के चेहरे पर चमक थी। छुट्टी के बाद घर जाकर उसने मां से पुरस्कार की चर्चा की। मां की आंखों से खुशी के आंसू छलक पड़े।
इसके बाद दिन-प्रतिदिन सोनू का हौंसला बढ़ता गया। और एक दिन वार्षिक परीक्षा में अपने विद्यालय में ही नहीं, अपितु जिला स्तर पर सोनू सबसे अच्छे अंकों से उत्तीण हुआ। यह देख सभी बच्चे हैरान थे। और एक दिन जिलाधिकारी महोदय उसे पुरस्कृत करने हेतु उस विद्यालय में आये और मंच पर सोनू को बुलाया। सोनू के पास अभी भी पुराने वस्त्र ही थे। वह मंच पर जाने में संकोच कर रहा था। लेकिन शिक्षक महोदय ने उसे डांटकर वहाँ भेज दिया। जिलाधिकारी महोदय ने सोनू की पीठ थपथपाई और प्रथम पुरस्कार देते हुए उसे कहा- इसी तरह आगे भी अच्छे अंक लाते रहना।
सोनू ने उनसे निवेदन किया कि इस पुरस्कार की असली हकदार उसकी मां है, यह उसे ही मिलना चाहिए।
उसकी मां को मंच पर बुलाया गया और पुरस्कार देते हुए जिलाधिकारी महोदय ने कहा- ऐसे होनहार पुत्र को जन्म देकर आपने इसे इस योग्य बनाया। धन्य हैं आप।
मेहनत का फल सचमुच बहुत मीठा होता है। इस छोटी सी दिखने वाली कहानी में सच्चे दिल और मेहनत का फल है, जब कोई काम दिल से किया जाए, उसमें सफलता अवश्य मिलती है।

मेहनत का फल सचमुच बहुत मीठा होता है। इस छोटी सी दिखने वाली कहानी में सच्चे दिल और मेहनत का फल है, जब कोई काम दिल से किया जाए, उसमें सफलता अवश्य मिलती है।

Sonu was a very honest and ideal student, Sonu’s father left him in his childhood. He started living his life with his mother. Sonu was a poor student studying in the eighth standard. He did not have enough money to study further. He did not even have good clothes. All the students of his class used to make fun of him. But Sonu was not disturbed at all by this, despite being so neglected, he always behaved friendly and lovingly with his friends. Sonu’s mother had a heartfelt desire that he should study and become a successful person, but she always used to think that I do not have enough money to give good education to my son. Whatever his mother used to earn by working hard was not so much that some money could be saved, all the money was spent on everyday things. Here Sonu started selling toys to spend on his studies and to help his mother. He used to go to school in the morning and after returning from school he used to go out to sell toys.
The teacher praised him and gave him five hundred rupees and said that one day you will definitely bring glory to this school.
Sonu’s face was glowing. After school, he went home and discussed the award with his mother. Tears of joy rolled down his mother’s eyes.
After this, Sonu’s courage increased day by day. And one day Sonu passed the annual examination with the best marks not only in his school but also at the district level. All the children were surprised to see this. And one day the District Magistrate came to that school to award him and called Sonu on the stage. Sonu still had old clothes. He was hesitant to go on the stage. But the teacher scolded him and sent him there. The District Magistrate patted Sonu’s back and while giving him the first prize told him – keep scoring good marks in the same way in future as well.
Sonu requested him that his mother is the real deserving of this award, it should be given to her.
His mother was called on the stage and while giving the award, the District Magistrate said- You made him capable of this by giving birth to such a promising son. You are blessed.
The fruit of hard work is really very sweet. This short story shows the fruit of true heart and hard work. When any work is done with heart, it is sure to be successful.
